Frequently Asked Questions
Which formats can FormatStand convert to?
AAC (M4A), Apple Lossless, AIFF, or WAV — written beside the source or into a remembered output folder. Drag in files, folders, or both.
Will it overwrite my originals?
No. Originals are never overwritten. Files are read only where you point the app.
Do tags and artwork carry over?
Yes. Title, artist, album, track numbers, and embedded art all come across. If a file has no embedded cover, FormatStand uses cover.jpg or folder.jpg sitting beside the audio.
How do I split a CUE album into tracks?
Put the .cue sheet next to your CD rip. FormatStand reads it, shows one row per track, and cuts each track at its INDEX point — named and tagged from the sheet.
Can I extract the audio from a video?
Yes. Drop a MOV, MP4, M4V, 3GP, or 3G2 and FormatStand converts its audio track — useful for interviews, lectures, and concert clips without the video.
Can I rename files as they convert?
Yes. Turn on Name from tags and set a filename template, and output files are named from their own metadata as they're written.
Does FormatStand need an internet connection?
No. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no network access — everything runs locally on your Mac, offline.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 15.6 and later. FormatStand is a one-time App Store purchase — no subscription, no in-app purchases, no account.
Where is the user guide?
It's built into the app — open FormatStand Help from the Help menu for the full guide, covering formats, tags, CUE albums, and video audio extraction.
