Note: Please make sure to include any relevant details like which device and OS version you're on, whether iCloud is turned on, and what you were trying to do when the issue occurred. For a score that imported incorrectly, telling us the title and where the PDF came from helps a lot.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add my sheet music?
Use Add Folder. SheetStand copies your sheet-music PDFs into its own library and builds a searchable catalog. Your originals stay exactly where they are.
Why is a piece marked "Needs Review"?
SheetStand extracts title, composer, and key on device, working cheapest-first — PDF metadata, then text, then OCR, then heuristics — and every field carries a source and confidence badge. Anything it isn't sure about waits for you. Nothing is renamed silently: only confirmed pieces can be renamed, with a dry-run preview first, and a variant suffix instead of overwriting if there's a collision.
How do I use the metronome and backing tracks?
Open a score in the full-screen viewer — a compact transport sits above the page controls, so you can start a track, slow it down, and turn pages without opening a panel. Hide gives the score the whole screen back. The metronome is scheduled against the audio clock, so it stays steady with a backing track over a whole movement. Attach a track to a piece or open one ad hoc: MP3, M4A, WAV, and AIFF all work, as do Standard MIDI files. On Mac, the spacebar starts and stops the backing track.
Can I slow a passage down without it sounding odd?
Yes. Practice speed runs 0.5×–1.5×, and Keep pitch is the default, so there's no chipmunk effect. Tape-style pitch shift is there if you want it.
How do I connect a MIDI keyboard?
Plug in a USB-C or class-compliant keyboard and it comes through over CoreMIDI. Bluetooth MIDI pairs inside the app on iPad and iPhone, and in Audio MIDI Setup on Mac. Sustain pedal is supported including half-damper, with all-notes-off so nothing hangs when you stop.
Can I use my own piano sound?
A grand piano is bundled (FreePats YDP Grand, CC BY 3.0). If you'd rather use your own, import an SF2 SoundFont and pick the bank.
Does my library sync between devices?
With iCloud on, your library lives in SheetStand's own iCloud Drive folder, and two devices on the same Apple ID pick up confirmed metadata once it syncs. Per-piece practice settings — tempo, meter, and count-in — are saved with the score and follow it across your devices. With iCloud off, everything stays on the device. There is no SheetStand account either way.
What are the system requirements?
iPadOS or iOS 17.0 and later, or macOS 15.6 and later. SheetStand is a one-time App Store purchase — no subscription, no analytics SDK, no account.
Does SheetStand provide sheet music?
No. SheetStand organizes PDF copies you already have. It does not sell sheet music, grant performance or recording rights, or replace the printed edition — always verify titles and credits against the score.
